(CNN) -- The Israeli Air Force conducted a strike in Lebanon between Beirut and Sidon, responding to rockets that had been launched at northern Israel Thursday, the Israeli Defense Forces said Friday.
The IDF described the launch of rockets targeting Israel as a "terrorist aggression originating from Lebanese territory."
Lebanon's National News Agency said Israeli warplanes attacked a site belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) General Command located in the al-Naama valley at dawn Friday.
The al-Naama valley is located about 11 miles south of Beirut.
According to the IDF, four rockets were fired from southern Lebanon at northern Israel Thursday, with two of them landing in populated areas, Israel Defense Forces said.
It wasn't immediately clear where exactly the two rockets landed. They caused property damage, but no one was hurt, the IDF said.
One rocket was intercepted by Israel's missile defense system between the northern Israeli cities of Nahariya and Acre, the IDF said. Information on the fourth rocket wasn't immediately available.
Earlier, the IDF said all the rockets besides the intercepted one fell outside Israeli territory.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised his nation would respond.
"We are using many different means of both attack and prevention, and we are operating responsibly," Netanyahu said. "Our policy is clear: to defend and prevent. Anyone that hurts us, anyone that wants to harm us should know we will harm them."
The attack prompted a halt to all civilian aerial activity in northern Israel, IDF spokesman Capt. Eytan Buchman said.
The United Nations peacekeeping force monitoring the Israeli-Lebanese border, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), on Thursday sent a helicopter to investigate the attacks which were reportedy launched from the southern town of Tyre into Israel.
UNIFIL Force Commander Maj. Gen Paolo Serra urged the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and the IDF "to exercise maximum restraint, to cooperate with UNIFIL to prevent an escalation, which is not in the interest of the parties, and to ensure that the incident remains isolated."
According to the statement, the parties confirmed their interest in keeping the situation under control and pledged to cooperate and work closely with UNIFIL.
Established in 1978, UNIFIL is tasked with ensuring that the area between the Blue Line and the Litani River is free of unauthorized weapons, personnel and assets.
